Painting steering wheel

Any suggestions on how to repaint/coat a steering wheel? 38 years ago it was red now it is black and I want it to be red again.

Sand, prime, paint and clear coat as you would a body panel.

Painting steering wheel

Thank you for the reply. I went to a local paint store and they said they had nothing that would stick to the steering wheel. Will primer stick to the plastic/rubber/whatever the wheel is made of? I'm not a painter although I'll try almost anything once.

Change your paint store. If they don't have or think they have paint that will stick to plastic/rubber then they do not need your business. Plastic and rubberized panels are popular today. Tru that some require a "flex additive" added to the paint but that is mostly on bumpers.
