im looking to beef up my trucks running gear and im not having any trouble finding a Dana 70 rear single wheel for my 78 f250 4X4 supercab camper special. but im having a lot of trouble finding a dana 60 front end because i know the frame changed in 77 and i dont know about anything beyond 79. so im wondering what years of dana 60 front hp axles will fit my truck? thanks for any help.
1977 1/2 f250/350 went to the lowboy , hp front, married transfercase, and good pw steering. Any hp 60 from one of these trucks will work. 1980 had a wider frame/spring pads.
The front of the frames all have the same dimension. Any 78/9 D60F will bolt up to your truck.
Early D60 front ends were closed knuckle, low pinion units with less desireability.
High pinion open knuckle disc brake front axle is what you need.
Much work has to be done to use a later model axle. Spring perches are too wide, and the driver side tube is too short. This requires a bunch of fabrication.

i thought a 77, 78, and 79 would fit or am i mistaken when they changed the frame width? or does a 77 have a low pinion closed knuckle?
Keep looking don't give up. But that being said.. few of them can be found in 250's but don't believe they were ever factory. So look for 1 ton's from yeah as stated 77 1/2 to 79. You can find them from if your lucky cheap and up to i've seen 15-1800 ish(cnd). Very desirable front diff. probably the most. I was lucky to find one in a 3/4 ton 2600 for the whole truck working road ready.
some of the 77.5-79 F-250's had them. Mainly the Sno-Fighters. 1979 was the only year for a F-350 4wd in the 70's. They all had the Dana 60 HP open knuckle. I know where a good running 79 F-350 is for 1300 bucks with a Dana 60's front and rear w/4.10's, 400 c6 205. In Northern california. Not trying to advertise just saying. if interested PM me. Just tryin to help a fellow member. Hope this helps
i hope no one else saw that... ( pssst... you should pm that guy asap)shhhhh bring cash.
it would be great to get that truck but im in northern oregon so it would be hard to get down there and get it. and i need that money to rebuild my 460 that i have 550+ hp planned for. thanks anyway. hope some other lucky guy gets it and puts it to good use. thanks guys.
