2001 Ford Stripped Chassis

I have a 2001 E350 2WD super duty commercial stripped chassis. It has about 27k miles on the 5.4l sohc windsor engine. When changing oil this past weekend I noticed that the transmission where the round rubber plug is located was wet with oil. I did not see any drips on the ground where it was parked for 2 days. As far as I could tell, it was engine oil and not trans oil. I could not see where the oil could be leaking from. I removed the rubber plug from the bottom of the trans and inserted my finger in there but there was only a very thin film on my finger. I could see the ring gear and torque converter through the hole where I removed the rubber plug but I did not even see any speck of oil on either the ring gear or torque converter. I was using 5w-20 but I started using 10w-30 upon the advice of a mechanic at a local Ford dealership. Before I switched, I did not notice any oil on the bottom of my transmission. Does anyone know where the oil on the bottom of the trans of could be coming from? Does this sound like a rear main seal starting to go? Thanks in advance for any help.

Most likely the rear main seal is leaking, which is a pain to replace. You must remove the transmission and some other things to access it to replace it.
