I have a 1994 f-150 4.9L Inline 6 manual 5 speed. I just put in a new inner shift kit because I was busting my knuckles on the dash to get it into first gear but now the truck is stuck in reverse I think? It could possibly be another gear. The shifter feels like it's in neutral but I tried pushing the truck and it is definitely stuck in one of the gears. ????any suggestions would be much appreciated!
You just put in the shifter bushings right? More than likely you took the shifter out in gear and put it back in neutral. I did the same thing earlier this year when I replaced mine. It is easy to do becasue I had to move the shifter into gear to get to one of those damn star screws. Take your shifter out, of course you will need to remove the upper bushing, and look inside the neck and you will have to imagine the shaft inside and determin which gear you are in. Here is a hint, 1/2 gear rails will be on the right. 3/4 gear rail will be the center so you know where 5/rev is on the left. Remember that the 1/2 and the 5/rev gears must depress a button to get into gear. All of the gears should line up creating a small rectangular "hole" in the middle (this hole is neutral with all of he gears lined up. If you can see the picture below you will notice the difference in the two. IF not then let me know and also how to post pictures and I will resend them. It is a common mistake, so take your time and get it back into neutral.

I was kind of thinking this is what happened. I can't see the picture but I think that would be really helpful if I could actually look at how it's supposed to be. You can send the pics to me at tyrus3k@aol.com thanks!
alright I figured it out, and I got it into neutral. thanks! but it seems like maybe the two pins on either side of the inner shifter aren't holding it properly into place. I can twist the shifter way to the left and right? the pins are brand new, the same size as the originals but they just don't seem to be grabbing the notches on eigher side to keep it from having that twisting motion?
I just can't seem to drive the pins in so they are seated completely flush?! Givin me quite a headache. Its just too small of a space to be able to get any power to smack them in.
