ignition help?

so i have seemed to stump myself. I have a 73 f250 360 motor. this motor has been built and i have wired and had running in three different trucks. so I really
seem confused. the truck has no other wiring besides the ignition and charging system. I had it going the other day and it died so i determined it wasnt charging. took the alternator out and that was all ok so the truck would still start and run at this point. so I switched out regulators and just couldn't get it working. so started going through everything from the ignition swithc to coil all the wires. somewhere i have got something backwards or not hooked back up. I have no power coming out of my coil, i do have power to the coil. so i have switched out coils i had about 5 other good ones laying around. still nothing. could someone rundown the essentials to make this thing run. oh and it has a pertronix and all that wiring and grounding seems fine.

thanks for any help
justin

Get a testlight or voltmeter. I think you said you do have power on the coil + with the key in run and start, but check it again anyway by putting the + probe on the + of the coil, and the neg probe on the engine block.

Once you have verified that, then leave the neg on the engine block, and move the + probe to the neg coil terminal. While doing this, crank the engine. The voltage should go up and down or the testlight should blink when the engine turns. If it doesn't, then your pertronix box is burnt out or has some other problem. If you saved the points(you should have them in the glovebox) then you can put them back in and see if it will run.

I would buy a set of points and stick them back in to try. Like I said, most people keep a set of points in the glove box in case they are in tenbucktoo and get stranded by a blown pertronix unit. I believe LMC truck and other aftermarket people sell the pertronix.
