O2 sensor

Hey guys my check engine has been flashing on and off for the last few days... 94 f-250 5.8. I plugged it in today and pulled the o2 sensor code... think it will be alright to drive her home 370 miles?

What code did you get exactly? There really is no O2 sensor code just some that indicate it could be something associated with fuel mixture.

Hey Conanski I will get the code for you tomorrow, I have it written down out in the truck. The reason I ask is because I am up at college, and I am driving home for spring break next week. I was wondering if I should even be driving it or not. And if its worth trying to do it up in the parking lot behind the school.

Thanks for help

Conanski I pulled code 172 EGO Not Switching... I talked to a guy at class, and he said he was the O2 sensor. I am up at school now, and have limited tools so I am going home on the 13th, but its 370 miles, about 6-7 hours. So I don't know if it will be alright to run it or not. I also pulled code 636 Tran Temp Sensor. So I was wondering if anyone had any input on that? Thanks a lot for all your help everyone!

If the O2 sensor is bad, I would replace it before you make that drive, it is an easy task. All you need is a box end wrench that fits the sensor and a can of penetrating oil. Douse the SOB in penetrating oil everyday for a couple of days and then unplug the harness, wrench it out, put the new one in, and plug in the harness.

Yeah thats what I thought, it's could be a bad sensor but it could also be something else. How does it drive? What's the milage like?

I had that code when my O2 sensor went out. Drove fine, but got awful mileage. If it is running bad, I would look into other problems like Conanski said.

No other problems really...maybe the gas mileage is a little less than normal, getting like 170 miles to a tank instead of 200... I am going to order the sensor tomorrow from NAPA, the only other store around is Auto Zone... Any idea how much you think she is gonna run me?

I seem to remember the Bosch O2 sensor I bought from NAPA being about $60-$70 with tax.

When you are ready to remove the o2, warm the truck up first. They're easier to remove when the exhaust pipe is warm and expanded a bit.

Hey everyone thanks for the advice, it was sunny and like 55 degrees out today, so I figured what the hell let me get it done. It was 53 bucks, no big deal really, truck is running a lot better, I can really feel it, plus the check engine light is off... once again thanks everyone!
