AOD 101.....School me.
Looking for a different trans for my friends 83 Ranger 2wd w/ 300hp 302. We built this truck almost 10yrs ago and its a DD. He has a C6 behind his beast of a 302 which has been working quite successfully for 8yrs, problem is, his rpms are 3100@ 65 mph w 3.45 gears......A little high, He wonders if a AOD could be his answer? is it comp. controlled? if it is the deals off because this truck is strictly old school, with no electronics. Can it be built to handle a 300hp 302?........Sorry for the dumb questions, but we know nothing about the AOD except it offers a OD gear. Thanks in advance!

AOD weak, trouble.
'88-'93, improved, fixed some problems
beef ups available, important, required
Throttle Valve adjustment is critical, watch for this, DO NOT ignore.
A good late model box (watch for speedo drive) with minor beef will handle that engine fine.

I put a TCI Pro Super rebuild kit in my `90 AOD and I loved it right up to the time I snapped the input shaft in half after I put the 351 in.Now I`m running a TCI SuperStreetfighter w/hardened input shaft behind the 393 and it`s workin` gooood!
