hi, new e-150 owner here
the van runs pretty rough, I can still drive it around town but it lacks power, especially in first gear, and it's mis-firing, at least that is how it feels.
When it still has the "choke" on it runs much better though, almost without problems.
It takes a couple cranks for it to stay running, it will just fire up and die the first couple tries, or if I get it into gear right away it will stay running.
I am about to replace the dist. cap and plugs.
I have a fuel pressure gauge but I can't tell where I hook it up.
The van has the 6 cyl 4.9L motor with an auto tranny and EFI.
any ideas are greatly appreciated, I love the van and want to get it running nice and smooth.
Thanks!!
Anyways, I replaced the dist/rotor/plugs/wires.
The van is certainly running a lot smoother.
The main issue it is still having is that once it has been driven awhile, and than I stop. when I crank it over to start it up it will fire right up and than die unless I give it gas, than it still wants to die if I let off the gas. So, I fire it up, pump the gas a few times, make sure no one is in the way and put it in drive and take off. It never dies once it is in drive, and if I drive a little than stop and put it in park, it will idle.
Also, when I'm cruising on the Interstate, generally above 60, every few minutes it will kind of studder, like it loses all power, but just for a second, then it keep going. I thought maybe it was the tranny slipping but it doesn't seem to happen more if I'm stepping on the gas. It also seems to lose power on hills, but not as bad now that I gave it a little tune-up.
Any help is great!!
Thanks-
oh, and I checked for codes and didn't get any, said everything passed.
I'd give a fuel conditioner a try. Still like Chevron Techron. EFI is so precise faults often feel like ignition issues. Intermittent problems may also evade the onboard diagnosis & not throw a fault code. I had a TPS w/defective contact that frustrated local FORD experts who deemed it "Blue Oval Disease". Finally bought my own code reader & plugged it in when truck acted up & nabbed a code.
Idle issues are often related to vacuum problems. Search for cracked/split vacuum lines.
