I just bought a 2009 f150 supercab xlt truck. It did not come with the side step for the box. The dealer told me that i could not order it after the fact. Has anyone found the ford step anywhere? i don't want a non ford one. thanks
I realize that you said you didn't want a non Ford one.........but you might want to check out what is available on Amazon.com. From tailgate steps to box side steps.
A side step is basically out of the way and really who cares if it says Ford on it or not.
Anyway, congrats on the new truck. Post some pics.
These steps are a $300 option when built with the truck, probably $300 each plus installation after the fact. Your dealer must have his head up his a$$. If a truck with them got T-boned and destroyed a step, then it would have to be replaced. They have to be available. I'd try to get the Ford steps.
if you get in ford web site and look under the section that allows you to look at all of the ford add on the step is there and it like 380 some i think

I stoped at the ford dealer and gave the parts guy the part number for the box step. He looked them up, they only list the drivers side. It looks like you can just flip it to install on the passenger side. The step is $343.73 apeice. looks like i won't have box steps on my truck.
You didn't really mean to say that did you? A $300 option at time of purchase will cost three times that after installation costs, (if he was to have the Ford dealer do it).
I like the higher walls in the Ford box, gives me more protected area for stuff while going down the road. As for the side steps, in my case they are worthless (my truck came with them, I never would have ordered) since I don't have a gull wing tool box nor are they any good if you put your cap on. I might remove them but Wendy likes them, I guess it's the way they go in and out. If I take them off, I put up a notice, in the right place in the forum, for sale. Chris
Yeah, the high side box will help some peeps with the way they load their trucks.
But if You look at the side of (even a 2WD) the tire sits 12" lower than the fender opening. There's now way, even if You had it loaded to the stops, that the tire will ever use that space. These trucks don't have 12" of suspension travel.
