I need to replace my driver side window regulator and it got me thinking about the rest of my door and window parts. I noticed that both my side windows have a little less than a quarter inch play forward and rearward. It is tight when moving it toward me and toward the street.
True, the felt is hardened but the felt is not worn off. I'm thinking of replacing the upper felt but I suspect the wind noise difference would be negligible compared to a full window felt/vent rubber and weather strip replacement. But I'm definitely replacing the bottom weather strip while the window is out of the way.
So how much play do you have in your side windows?
If you mean your vent windows have a lot of play when they're supposed to be shut, it's possible that the latch is not holding it tight against the seal. This type of damage often occurs when the truck has been broken into through the vent window.
Sorry about that, for some reason I took "side windows" as the vent windows. I used to have the same problem. I installed a new anti-rattle kit which came with the felt lining for the window channels, and the pieces that pop into the door sheet metal that center the window. No problems since. I also installed new window regulators at the time because my driver side window was so loose that you could push the glass up and down with your finger, and the passenger side wouldn't budge.
