Transmission Problems
My friend referred to me to this site and told me there was a lot of great information here. I've ran into my first major problem with my 2002 Ford F-250 Powerstroke (Supercab 4 x 4). I am the original owner and I have used it for quite a bit of towing. It currently has about 118,000 miles on it.
I was recently towing our travel trailer (about 8,000 lbs) and the transmission overheated...started shifting hard, and leaked some tranny fluid. It really overheated for about 20 minutes. The tranny fluid is somewhat discolored and has a bit of a burned smell. The tranny still shifted through all of the gears when I shut her down.
So, any ideas as to what the problem(s) could be? Is my tranny toast? I suppose I really need to have the pan pulled for a look around. The valve body was changed by Ford under warranty at 85k...and I've changed the tranny fluid about every 30k miles.
I don't plan on making any repairs myself...and have not brought it to the Ford dealer or any tranny shops yet.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice on this.
Al
