Hey folks im pulling my transmission tonight, and i heard of a "faster" way to pull it than just going in there with out any knowledge. i have a motorcycle lift and my truck is lifted so it fits good, just wondering what this time saving trick is. I found a JW trans that im going to swap out with it, and getting it gurenteed! Great costomer service these builders offer.
And Im also looking for a 6.0 trans cooler around the area of central MN, as i wont finish this untill i have a clean new one in it no more plugged stocker..thanks in avance! Will be checking back when i get tools or im cold! (gotta do it out side, 20ft from my tools n trailer under a big tarp ugh!)
the only thing i can tell you lift back end by a pumpkin to make more room for the trans if you need to. thats what BTS did. other than that good luck.

Thanks i have almost too much room with 6 inch lift and 34s, i havent done much lookin, now i have to bring spot lights out there but the top bolts dont look fun, im still setting up so i havnt got tools yet someone may have made a write up, but i cant find any. wished i had my camera to show my progress. will take pics when i get other trans and 6.0 install.
Remove the transfercase it will be so much easier. Also strap the trans to the jack so it does not roll off. I can get the trans down in a matter of a few minutes, with the help of some buddies bringing tools. As a matter of fact my trans still needs to go back into my truck, lol.
Wow, outside. Done that been there. I grew up near St. Cloud MN. Now in MI. Weather is about the same here today. Cold makes it so much tougher to get a big job done.
Ever have your fingers stick to a bolt so you have to have light gloves on just to keep your finger tips?
Once the transfer case and crossmember are out, the trans will drop down low enough to reach all the bellhousing bolts with about 3', or so, of extensions and a 3/4''/19mm swivel socket or socket and swivel adaptor. Takes more time to remove the transfer case and crossmember than the trans itself. Watch out when you drop the trans so the TC doesn't fall out if tipped forward. That sucker is heavy.
most bolts are loose.. just getting to bell housing bolts and one is missing...wow nice. great job that last shop did on this thing. just bout to drop it just had to grab a and cresent (trans cooler line fitting)
Asa I wish I could come over and help but laying on the cold ground with a bad back is just not a good thing. But hey if you get in a bind let me know I'll help if I can.
yeah got trans out now i find a TQ bolt stripped... im calling the guy who rebuilt it to vent.. this is crap. yeah i so far cant get TQ nut off(one) but will getr it soon., i think i can get it in the VR4 for a trip tomorrow (illinois) anyways.
Im still looking for a 6.0 trans cooler if anyone close has one that would be great!
All in all trans removal was pretty easy with my given circumstances, now i just need to get the other trans from the guy and and locate a 6.0 cooler and lines.
I will do some searching but can you run custom lines from trans to cooler? what would you have to use? and install pics or ideas guys? bout to load up and take the 8 hour drive to get it, will have computer in car, online, ready for info! i am excited to get a decent trans in this truck, after finnally figuring out that early tunes on a late model truck suck compared to the right ones! thanks jody!(my mistake)

I started pulling my Trans today (Tuesday) as well. I move slow and take my time because of my bad back. I am also doing mine outside in the street in front of the house. I'M also using the motorcycle lift, worked well in the past on other vehicles. I am also disconnecting the transfer case first. My question is if my trannys not repairable did you have John Wood's ship to you prior to R&R, how much for shipping, does the core need to be shipped back before or after the new trans. I was just down ther I should've went to his shop I could've made it!
