I was driving in a parking lot last night when i heard a noise from the back of the truck like something metal hitting the ground. I stopped and sure enough a piece of metal about a foot long was laying there. I thought nothing of it at first and threw it in the bed. I finally realized when i got under the truck that both rear leaf springs had pieces broken off...
Now i have to replace the srings and still figure out what is wrong with the front end. I am wondering if rear springs off an 8foot bed will fit a 6foot bed?
I have seen a few of the leaf packs break, my wife has watched some come out of a superduty as it turned the corner. Scary, Don't know why they break, usually around the center pin. Be interested in knowing why. I would assume that leafs pack off of either a long bed or short bed will work. As long as the weight rating is the same for the truck.
i've heard of a few guys with cracked springs on ford one tons but never had them just fall out. they'll stay in the pack.
one guy suggested that they aren't long enough (physics and all that), and if you were to measure the lenght of a 1999 one tons leaf springs to a mid-2000 model you'll see the differance. i'm not sure what year they made this change in lenght but it was made.
