what options are available to swap an overdrive manual transmision behind an FE? the easiest would be an overdrive toploader 4speed, but what are my other options?

Welcome to FTE
1965/72 F100's were available with the Borg Warner T-85N 3 speed Overdrive. This is basically a "3 on the tree" with O/D.
The Ford TS-OD single rail 4 speed overdrive (it is not a toploader) was only used with 300 I-6's and 302's from 1978 thru 1986.
It's a weak sister of a trans, one speed shift, you can kiss it good bye. The parts are expensive and hard to find.
The shift lever mounts too far back to use in your truck without modifications.
The Ford 4 speed toploader (no O/D) was only installed in cars, you'll have the same shift lever problem if installing this trans.
There are aftermarket options but they aren't cheap. Can't remember names of companies off the top of my head but if you look you can find them. An adaptor between your FE and a tremec is what you end up with, big with the cobra kit car guys.
