It lives!
Its blistering cold outside at a whopping 5*F. As you guessed, the truck had been sitting all week. No block heater, nothing.
I doubted it would start...but to my surprise it was sputtering on the first slow crank to try and get going.
Note that I have NEVER gotten it to start below about 30*F without either plugging it in or running the batteries into the ground.
She sure as hell was cranky and smokey at first, but fired up just great. After warming up a few minutes, I took a nice drive around the neighborhood before shutting it down.
Only obstacle now is to figure out why my mileage dropped so badly (down to 12mpg from 17mpg empty) after replacing my fuel filter.

Just thought you guys would be impressed to hear a success story for once. Can't beat old reliable.

Possibly you got a bad filter.
Do you notice any difference in the way it runs after changing the filter?
At first I wanted to just think it was the longer warm up times...but I went from about 500 miles to the tank down to about 421 as I observed earlier this month.
I replaced the fuel filter with a Ford Motorcraft one filled to the brim with pure Diesel Kleen. I noticed a definite change in tone instantly upon start up. It seems to have the same power, but much quieter and smoother.
When I first replaced the filter and the truck was warmed up, it seemed to run a bit rough at stoplights around town. Tightened up the filter soon after and it hasn't acted up since.
I don't know if this is related, but upon start up it smokes a puff or two of blue smoke. It has been that way since I bought it even after I replaced the CDR.
