Brought the tank out of my `61 in today to get cleaned out,but I was told that I would need a new one. Who has the best price on new tanks and/or is a 67-72 tank the same?

Ford replaced the 18 gallon fuel tank used 1961/69 (C1TZ-9002-H) with the 19.5 gallon tank used in 1970/72 (DOTZ-9002-A), so all these year tanks will fit.
FTE Sponsor BLUE OVAL TRUCK PARTS has reproduced the DOTZ-9002-A fuel tank (it's "imported").
This tank is the only one available, and is also sold by Dennis Carpenter and other repro parts vendors.
No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either one of the original genuine Ford tanks.
Obsolete parts vendor Green Sales Co in Cincinnati OH shows the DOTZ fuel tank in stock, but it's the repro Blue Oval tank (I called them and asked).
There are fuel tank repairs kits, and usually consist of a cleaning solution, metal etch, sealer, and fuel preserver and stabilizer. Most of the products can be purchased from the local hardware. Have a 64 passenger car tank, it had couple pin holes so use the sealer, if recall it was from a Por 15 kit, have not had opportunity to test the tank yet. The tank on 65 F100 had residual gunk in the tank, no leaks, so took cleaning solution, I like 'marine clean', and sloshed it around in the tank, repeated this couple times. Then took mild solution of metal etch and repeated, rinsing thoroughly between treatments. Then let the tank drain and bake in the sun for the day. This was 6-7 yrs. ago with no problems. Suggest install either canaster, or inline fuel filter. Anyhow, had an urge to chime in and add my $.02.
