I bought a 390 last year for parts and the crank, mostly to stroke my 360. The cylinders are pretty rusted. Does anyone know of a good machine shop in Denver Colorado that can check to see if the block or crank are shot?
If the block is usable I will just build it so looking for a place that could do the machine work as well if it is not shot. I am in South Denver/Littleton area.
If the block looks that bad and the pitting is really deep, I wouldn't use it. It would probablly be cheaper to find another bare, unmachined block than to try to have somebody labor and possbilby sleeve it. There are plenty of blocks out there. As far as a good machine shop, talk to the dirt track drivers and ask them who they use for a machine shop for their racing motors. If you get a pretty consistant answer, visit that shop and pick the owner's brain for a bit.
There are two highly regarded shops for FE work right in your own back yard. Since it borders on advertising for these guys, you have to email me at the yahoo address in my signature.
BTW, If your block is toast, I might have a few bare blocks laying around.

Believe it or not, it's OK to recommend machine shops and other businesses, as long as they aren't posting here, and you're not asking them questions directly.
Thanks. I recalled that Blue Oval is right down the street so I called them, waiting for a reply. If the block is bad I will just stroke the 360 since it is the original motor. The crank looks pretty good but I don't have the tools to check it out.
