whatcha think

Ive looked at an 1989 three quarter ton ford with a diesel and a four speed,i looked really hard, cant see any markings, looks like the injectors are right above the valve covers.the owner says it runs fine but has a problem where it sits and then wont start,he says if you fill the fuel filter up itll fire right up,he is an old mechanic and says its some sort of anti drain back thing on the fuel pump.its been sitting in a parking lot for a long time,he sold it and the guy was making payments to him and died.im a truck driver and dont know much about ford diesels, and this year.im trying to figure out if its worth a few hundred bucks, and how much is a pump,he says its a mechanical kind.is this year ok for diesels or is it junk?what size do you think it is.

It is a good year the fuel draining back will be an air leak probably in your return line T's 50 bucks and 2 hours more likely fix the problem.

ron17571,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

starmilt has pointed you in the right direction.
The rubber lines between the injectors are return lines and there are two O rings under the plastic tee on each injector.

New return lines and O rings, problem will most likely be fixed.

If you do need a new lift pump, 40 bucks at NAPA.
