big ol' dent

I have a '67 F100 I am restoring and I have a bit of a problem with the bed. The whole truck is is excellent shape, the body is great, but the drivers side of the bed has a huge dent in it. The previous owner slid into a ditch and put a man size dent right over the axle. Lucky for me the frame is undamaged and they replaced the axle with a limited slip axle :-) . Can this dent be pulled out somehow or do I have to hunt for another 67 longbed? A replacement bed of that age seems to be a bit of a difficult find. Thanks for all the help!

The bed can be fixed but it might not be worth the time. I fixed a bed that was considered beyond repair because I was 1/2 done when I found all the real damage.

I'd get an straight line sander from harbor freight for about $30, these really save some time and do a great job. You can use a jack from the underside to force the metal close then work it with a hammer and dolly. If you can get the metal to about 1/2" of original position, the rest can be filled.

It might be worth putting a few hours into it to see if you can get it close then decide if you need a replacement panel or bed.

It really helps to have the original fender well supports that run from the edge to the bottom of the bed so that you have a true reference point.

you could try using a dent puller first. then fill it in with some bondo to smooth it out perfectly.
