24. I bought my first pickup when I was 16, owned several until I graduated college then I sold the truck I had at the time (the 88 F250 in my sig) and bought a "reasonable"car for driving to my new job (VW Jetta, TDI of course). Well, the little car was nice for some things and that little turbo diesel was pretty sweet but after about three years I couldn't stand not having a truck for my daily driver anymore. Now I drive the old diesel F350 to my white collar office job every day (people laugh at me a lot, I offer to pull them out of ditches) and will keep driving an old pickup as long as I can!
Little funny story about age.
Saturday evening a couple years ago I was down at the local Quick Stop store.
Got what I stopped in for and was standing in the check out line, two lines with about 4 people in each line.
Three people in each line had some form of alcohol and one of us in each line had milk and bread.
I just looked at the other guy with milk and bread and said your married with kids at home aren't you?
He just looked at what I was holding, Looks like you are as well.
We had a laugh and went on out ways.
Looks like I had retired from truck driving before a lot of you guys were even born.
Now I really am feeling old.
I gotta go get some of the Just for Men stuff and get rid of some gray hair before I log in tomorrow.
22, 23 in March. I am a Building Mechanic for Marriott (hotels). I have been exposed to heavy civil construction work sense around 5 years old (my dad used to take my brother and I to jobs during weekend/summer) and have been tinkering with cars sense 15. Going on about four months of learning the new (to me) monster of the diesel engine. Loving my truck.
Well I don't really have any other option, a while back I told my barber to only cut the gray.
So he asked if I really wanted my head shaved.
I had all my teeth pulled before several people here were born.
I wish dentists had all the cool treatments for gingivitis when I was younger that they have now.
I miss my teeth, I hate my reading glasses, and I really hate every bone in my body aching when a snow storm is on the way.
And let's not forget those crickets in my ears from tinnitus.
Take care of you body when you are young, you will live long enough to regret it if you don't.
I remember the indestructible feeling of youth all to well.
And now I know exactly what those old timers were trying to tell me when I was in that stage of my life.
I had all my teeth pulled before several people here were born.
I ain't much different. Just a younger version of you. I busted 12 of my teeth when I was 19 putting a 13 speed in a Pete, had a 4 foot pipe wrench on the yoke trying to get 'er stabbed, wrench slipped off and hit me in the mouth. Got busted over the head with a chunk of concrete when I was 21. from then on, I lived on a bottle of motrin everyday until I was 24. Got 30 teeth pulled and some purdy fake ones swapped in. Hair has been going gray since 15 and I have what Angi calls "salt and pepper" hair, and I ain't even 30 yet (5 months to go). So don't let it bother you Dave. We wouldn't hold it against you. I know this thread was rather off topic, but I look at most here like family. Good people, more come along daily. I think it is a good idea occasionally to change the subject, then go back to reading "I broke my truck", "Why am I running out of fuel, only burned 2 gallons" or even "I have a 600 hp IDI".
Between my eyes, ears, walking with a stoop for the first hour in the day, feeling the cold weather all over, and the sound of breaking raw spaghetti from my knees and ankles when I walk, I really could have used the advice about now. I do still have all of my hair in its original color tho .
