I'm considering purchasing a 1971 F100 SWB from a private seller. I've seen the truck in person, but just briefly, so I didn't have time to dig into details.
So here's my question:
The truck (as based on the VIN number) came stock in 1971 with a 302. The current owner states that the original engine was replaced with a 351W, which did not come stock in a 1971 F100.
He's using this "upgrade" to justify his asking price. Not so much that it is a lower mile, or newer engine, just that it's a 351W versus a 302.
So my question is, is the 351W a significant upgrade over a 302, all other things (mileage, age, etc) being equal?
I wouldnt think the 351 would make that much difference in price...Unless its in really good condition..motor wise...I cant see the truck...But a 351 is a good up grade over a 302...But im no expert...
unless the 351w is built and worth a bunch,it won't raise the value of the truck that much. performance wise is another story. I put a 351w in my 78f100 where a 302 used to be,and it was the difference between night and day!!
The only way modifications will effect the value is if they are extensive and of very high quality. What DOES effect the value and should effect your decision whether or not to buy ANY used vehicle are three VERY IMPORTANT categories. These three TOP categories to consider are:
