2000 ranger 4 cyl, 175000 miles Manuel trans. Question . . . two days ago I get a strange sound from around the tran area, it sounds like small pee size rocks falling on a tin roof. I hear it when I begin to accellerate in 1st or 2nd gear or with clutch in as I begin to pull shifter into gear but not in nutrel not with clutch in or out, not in higher speeds, My first thought was throw out bearing but it doesent do it when i press the clutch in, so im thinking maybe a bearing in the trans?? anybody experinced this issue? thanks
try to change fluid first. usually this sound appeares when gears are worn a bit ore play inside tranny, bearings.... difficult to understand what is wrong with tranny on truck. usually I can see problems when tranny is disassemblied
It still could be the throw out bearing, they don't allways play by one set of rules when they go bad. The sound you describ sure sounds like a TO bearing.
