What differences between the 1970 F100 and 1970 F250?

This has probably been tossed around many times before, but my searching turned up nothing. I'm sure that there will be some flaming, but I really couldn't find anything. Even searches elsewhere really don't turn up a lot of info. The main differences are obviously in the suspension, but what else is different? Frame, engine, anything that may differ? I don't necessarily plan to lower the truck I get, but I have been toying with the idea, s which model would better lend itself to lowering?

Thanks in advance...(flamesuit on)

The difference is pretty much all below the chassis with some minor upgrade in the chassis rails it self. Engines, trannys, bodies were shared.

Hope you didn't find much heat in my reply.

Suspension and the 250 will have eight lug wheels. I would guess the 100 would be easier to lower due to the suspension.

The F-250 are better trucks...if you're going to lower it....ruin an f-100, and leave the 250's for those of us that love trucks....

Better yet, get a Ranchero...already lowered....

Thanks John for not flaming me. You were actually the person I had in mind when I said I thought I would get flamed!

I have a 2008 F250 and I am very familiar with the differences in the new trucks. I just don't know much about the older ones. The new trucks don't share much in common between the Super Duty and the F150. I guess the older ones are mainly suspension differences.

I love trucks...I don't know why anyone would say that lowering a truck would ruin it. I'm not talking about notching the frame or anything radical like that. Maybe just drop I-beams and de-arching the leafs is about all. I would never lower a 4wd just like I would never lift a 2wd.

I found a 1970 Camper Special with only 109,000 miles, single owner, used to haul a camper by the same owner for 25 years. He wants $1500, but I was going to see if I could get it for less. I really have no clue if this is a good deal or not.

Wow, such a useful post...

Any one of them are fine to lower IF you can find the parts for the 250 it will work well, if done right, it is still a 3/4 ton, still good for hauling campers whatever else you want. Lowering does not ruin a truck.

Couldn't have said it better myself. nothing wrong with a low 2x4 if done right, not a fan of de-arch tho(unless you got bags to help it out), not much room for drop shackles on the f100s, maybe put the leafs under axle housing then move the shackles accordingly to get the height you want. could turn into a project if you're too particular about it. and if it's in as gooda shape as it sounds like, buy it.

So, just a flip instead of de-arch? That's not a bad idea. I did that on an 88 Ranger and it looked great. We'll see...I am going to go see the truck today. My wife thinks I am crazy, since I already have a brand new truck and want to buy an old one. She thinks I would be better off buying a sub-compact car to drive through the week.

yeah, i used to have a sardine can, (00 suzuki esteem) with my 3rd kid on the way I miss the car now, but these bumpsides are very cool to fix up or just drive around. when you say de-arch you mean removing leafs right? We did that to a 04 dodge and it never was right, we took out the 2nd and the lverload and it sagged way too much and then put the overload back in and it has always rode rough cuz it's always on the overload. We heated the leafs on a 91 ranger (against my own better judgement) and we could never get both sides the same.

I have seen where people have actually just hammered the leafs to flatten them out. I do like the idea of mounting the axle above the leaf, instead of under it, if that is possible.
