I would like to start painting stuff lol, and if i get good enough my truck. Is it a real 'B' to do, or farely easy? Tell me the steps it would take me to repaint my truck or another persons vehicle?
Josh,
Painting, I have learned is both labor intensive and expensive if you don’t have the equipment, not to mention much more technical in nature than it has ever been. Other points to consider are the safety issues associated with the toxic paints being used today as well as space requirements if your planning on painting at home. All of this may seem negative, but its not. If you do it correctly, taking your time and following correct procedures, you can do a very acceptable job at home.
http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index is a very good site that I would recommend. They have a video (painting 101) for around $30 and a bulletin board for posting questions about the trade. Hope this helps.
Hi Josh, I agree with Tom for the most part. Being a hobbiest myself, I'm in the learning stages. We're trying to do everything on our '41 ourselves and since my Husband doesn't have the patience for painting and I don't have (actually don't want) the mechanical knowledge, we've kinda split the project between mechanics and appearance. I like the idea that when it's done, we'll both know every inch of the truck and be able to say that we did it ourselves. I had some experience painting when we had a dirt car, but it didn't have to be perfect so I just used High-gloss Rustoleum. I liked the results and that's what made me decide that I want to do this project myself. Talk about great satisfaction in knowing that you did it yourself.
As for the learning process, I spent "& still spend" hours going through the various posts in this forum, purchased a "how-to" book, asked question and checked out the other web sites. I've found the responses I've gotten on this site to be very helpful. Do some research, read and ask many many questions.
Good luck with whatever project you decide to tackle first.
