I was getting stuff out of the X and when I heard a slam-crash. The liftgate decided it was gonna go suicidal on me. I have absolutely no idea why it happened. The glass is shattered and it also looks like the plastic-like material on the inside (like a liftgate frame?) is broken. How much am I looking at to get it fixed? I don't have pics and she has a date with the bodyshop tomorrow during the day so I won't be able to take some after I get home from school either. Also, if you have any funny stories to cheer me up, I need those.
DUDE! I feel your loss, and in your time of suffering and devastation, I shall share my story with you.
Just tonight, I was run off the edge of a dirt road (in my Ex) by one of the company trucks! I was going about 45mph, uphill, and turning to the right. Luckily for me I had plowed the snow off of that very road on Monday in my motor grader so my tires just kind of bounced off of the snowbank and I rode her back onto the road. Had I not been in 4WD, I would have bitten it HARD and probably flipped it.
I took some pics just now and there in my galery. Not the best, but it's what you get at 9:30 at night with a droplight. If you decide to make fun of my mom's mary kay sticker, go ahead but then you have to buy something from her.
Damn, that truly sucks! My struts are worn and a couple weeks ago I loaded a spare tire in the back and used my left hand as a safety, holding the hatch the whole time, just incase. I'm buying 2WD struts today. Sorry that happened man.
If your new hatch comes complete with a 3rd brake light, I'll buy your old one to replace my cracked one. Send me a PM if interested.
Doug
I'm not sure if they would get me a whole new liftgate. I think they'll order only the broken parts and transfer the working parts over from the broken one to the new. My mom still hasn't taken it to the bodyshop yet.
I was wondering if it would be beneficial to try out a junkyard and have the bodyshop paint it. Would that work? I've been looking around and parts are expensive so if I could find a used one at a junkyard, it'd work out perfectly.
I'll trade you. At the Parker 425 a couple of weeks ago i'm sitting in the pit talking to the race truck on the radio. I hear the hatch open and think nothing of it when I heard the dreaded sound you did. I look back and see my wife running away from me and the glass shattered. I asked her what happened and she said that she thought it would stay up HALFWAY!!!. We Duct taped the glass in place (pouring rain), well when we went onto the course the next day to get the broken race truck at MILE 11 the glass fell out from the whoops. Get back to the pit and call around for a replacement and everyone is closed till after I need to be home. So we duct taped a black trash bag in place with yellow duct tape and drive to Hemet CA from Parker AZ like that. Call Safelite auto glass, it was the most reasonable I could find at $350 installed in my driveway
i am confused about the term "lift gate". Wasn't aware Ford had a "lift gate" option for ANY of its SUV's. I did find a number of after-market sellers of lift gates, but these seem only for trucks with back beds, not for 'station wagon" type vehicles like ours with clam-shell doors and/or rear "hatch" type glass windows. Am I missing something here ? Anyone have any photos they could post showing how one could fit a "lift gate" to the back of an EX ? I could really use such a device (would be a great way to lift and transport my Seadoo ).

You are not "confused".
Why don't you just go away?
Sorry guys but I can't stand this person's attitude in his posts.
Must be nice to "know it all".
Yeah my Ex has a lift gate (with glass in the lift gate). and 2 barn doors. Just like every other Excursion!
