Fuel Pump?

Hi all.. Just bought a 1996 F-150 351W & real happy with it.... But I was having some hesitation and starting issues. Checked the IAC, EGR, and replaced the fuel filter. If I didn't let the pump prime good (waited a few seconds with the switch on before starting), it will not idle at start & smell like it floods out. I let it sit and started it, then switched tanks. Runs and idles good in rear tank, but when switching to front tank, it almost dies, but comes back. I'm thinking fuel pump is going out. Everything I read says I have to drop the tank to get it out (not friendly). Wondering if there is anything else or is it the pump. If so, is there any way to cheat getting it out without dropping the tank. Thanks all & love the site.

Check for codes and check the fuel pressure.

Normally with the fuel pump when it dies, it dies, But if it runs on the rear tank and stalls with front tank, it's the pump. Remove the bed its alot easier to change the pump.
You'll need some assistance unless you have a lift and can hook some chains up to it.
