4 bbl going on!

I'm finaly installing my 4 bbl intake and had some questions.

1.) I got a set of felpro intake gaskets. What side does the one with the metal heat riser sleeve go on? Why dont both have it?

2.) Is there a torque spec for my intake bolts? Is there a Pattern to torque it in?

3.) I couldent find a listing for the valley pan seal under trucks. So I got one for a psg car in 1962. I assume it'll work. If so what is the torque spec for the valley pan.

Flip, I dont understand the first question.

#2 24-28 ft. lbs. I start by crisscrossing center hold downs diagonally, then working outward.

#3. Enough torque to seal and not enough to collapse pan. 15 ft. llbs would be my guess. If you have time tighten the vallley pan bolts and come back next day to retighten, after the cork gasket has relaxed.

I'll torque the intake down in stages. 15ftlbs, then 25ftlbs as you said.

The valley pan gasket is rubber, I was going to lay a string of RTV and wait a few hours. I wish she was cork. I'm not certain if my valley is leaking. I have some oil down there but it could be the valve covers leaking, I'll look and see.

Who makes a cork valley pan gasket?

I got the intake gasket situation resolved. They only fit one way.
Where the heat riser passage is into the intake its got a metal gasket surface. But only on one gasket. Why I dont know. I was woundering if that was standered or if I should reject the gaskets and get a new set for the intake.

Flip, still not sure of the number one question. But perhaps there are two, one each, of varieties of intake gaskets in your pair. I have one FOMCO pair with no metal surface. Another aftermarket pair with one metal surface but on each of the pair. I always put the metal clad side of the gasket to the hotest side of the surface. In this case metal side to head.

Either way, even if there is a mismatched pair, IMHO I would use them if they matched up with the mounting flanges. The common is to use a small amount of RTV around the water jacket ports, only.

Keep the RTV on the valley pan gasket to a minum. The crap can disloge if compressed into the engine cavity. I use it too, but reluctantly.

Rubber might be better in some respect to the cork. Tighten it up and go. The newer higher dollar stamped rocker cover gaskets are neoprene.

I'll give this rubber gasket a wack. If not I'll be barking for a cork gasket. My experience says a good cork gasket is easier to seat and seal.

Thanks for the intake and torque specs 46Y. Happy rodding.
