valve lash prob. (need advice)

hey guys, i have a 1995 f-150 ford lightining w/ a 351w supercharged engine in it. i just recently rebuilt my whole engine, but forgot to set my valve lash before i put on the intAKE. so now i dont know of any other way to adjust it with out being able to see the valve lifters. how can i find the top dead of the compresion stroke. ..............i heard something about finding piston's #1 compresion stroke. Then marking the harmonic balancer from the pin or pointer every 1/4s of it, making it posible to find the compresion stroke of the following poiston every 1/4 ...
is this true???? Any advice would b greatly appreciated, thank you

....trying to ajust valve lash??????? = *(

There is no valve lash adjustment on a 351w, you bolt down the rockers and torque them to spec. Do you have any aftermarket parts in this motor?

I assume you don't have the engine started from the rebuild yet. Turn the engine over with a socket on front of the crankshaft in a clockwise direction. Watch the intake valve on the number one cylinder open(get pushed down) and close(come back up) then continue turning the engine until the timing marks line up at top dead center, this will be roughly a half turn after the intake valve closes. This will be the firing position for the number one cylinder, and you can set the valves on the number one cylinder. You can mark your front pulley in quarters as you suggested and follow the firing order setting the valves on each cylinder. It will(obviously) take two turns of the engine to complete this. Remember to always turn in a clockwise direction. If you have hydraulic lifters make sure they are bled down. If you don't have adjustable rocker arms, you will have to get different length push rods if they don't fall into specs.
