I have an 84 F150 with extended cab and the headliner is shot. I have looked for a replacement and have found only regular cab liners. Has anyone replaced theirs and where did they get it if they did. Also if you recovered yours how did you do that?
Mine is not an Extended cab, but it's just a piece of either cardboard or foamboard (they changed the material depending on year) and have it recovered.
My friend owns an upholestry shop and charged me $40.
Good as new.
Or: you can just spray glue a rebel flag up there as several members here have done..........
You can take and remove the board that the upholestry was mounted to, clean it off and 3M makes the spray necessary to remount the cloth. If you look around at hobby shops they sell headliner material relatively cheap.
Thanks for the input, I have striped off the material and what passed for padding and it is down to a cardboard type material. Looks fairly straight forward to me to use the 3M spray and glue a new cover on it. It even has the corners scored for a somewhat idiot proof install. Srercrcr, I guess I deserved that, over on a VW bus sight we correct folks who call them vans. Since never having a Chevy and this is my first Ford SUPERCAB, I just figured if it was longer than a standard cab it must be extended. Although, in it's present condition, it is far from Super, but someday. LOL
I want to put a headliner in my '81 but I don't even have a starting point. I have nothing but bare metal. So how do I go about putting in a headliner when I have none to begin with? I have no headliner board, nor ratty old headliner, nothing. I've looked around but haven't figured out how to go about putting in a headliner when there never was one. Everything I've heard starts with replacing an old beat up one. I wish I had one of those. Fixing an existing one seems easier than starting from scratch. Anyone have any suggestions where to start? I mean other than going to an upholstery shop and having them do it.
The headliner on my 82 was sagging so I got the 3m spray glue & tried to glue it back up. The problem is the back of the material sticks to the backing board & it's like trying to glue something to sand, it doesn't work real well. I suppose if you have the patience ( I don't) take the cardboard down & spent a few days cleaning the stuff that's stuck to it off you could get it to stick again again. After I saw the 25+ year old original paint on my roof I thought it looked fine, so I tore the headliner & backboard down & tossed it.
The reason it didnt work for him could be several reasons including he didnt clean the board good enough or he didnt use a strong enough glue. I have done this several times and have never had a problem.

Cabs that did not have headliners from the factory (Custom or base trim package) do not have all the necessary trim pieces to hold it up.
You will need to find these parts from a donor truck:
A pillar trims
Trim above both doors
B pillar trims that run all the way to the floor
Trim that runs under the rear window
Trim above the rear window.
Cardboard or foam headliner backer or complete headliner
Mine didn't come with one from the factory either and it took a LONG time for me to find mint Fawn colored trim pieces to do mine. Any other color is very plentiful in the yard and you should have no problem getting the pieces you need.
Thanks a lot of that information. Now I have a place to start from. I'll give my local bone yard a look and see if I can find any of those trim parts. I understand that you can now get paint for plastic parts so any color should work. I didn't realize how many trim parts were needed to put in a headliner. Hopefully, I can find what I need. Does anyone know why some models didn't come with headliners? Were they just being cheap? It seems like something that every car or truck would have.
