i got a 2000 f250 sd 4x4 w/175k. when im going between 38 and 44 mph i get this strange hop... or bounce... its done it befor and after new tires so cancel that one out. any ideas. its in the rear like the bed is hopping or bouncing go over or under those speeds and it goes away. oh and where can i get the replacement bulb for my 4x4 switch. i took it out and its really funky. i took it to the parts store and no go their.
I had the hop with my old tires. Much reduced with new tires but I found it was primarily due to a particular section of road that was kinda like a washboard. Sped up, gone. Slowed down gone. I am sure new shocks would help a ton.
As for the light, IDK, I have the lever thing, and my light on the dash works fine. Others may chime in.
Well, new tires did not conquer it for me either but it seems to be limited to a certain section of road for me. If it did it all the time I would look at rotate or balance. I agree, it is annoying but for me, only on that one road.
You guys have a SuperCab? LB?
I do and I got the hop when I lifted it 4 inches. I did not have it before at stock.
I shimmed the carrier bearing up and down , no luck.
Put the OEM rims and tires back on, no luck.
Had the shaft check for balance, OK.
Verified angle at rear, OK.
Still have it.
Did anybody resolve this issue? I have the same problem, between 40-50 MPH. Most noticeable at 45 MPH and goes away near 40 and 50. It happens while in gear and neutral. Shocks are only 2 years old, tires are barely a year. It's almost feels like there is some play in the drivetrain like a transmission mount, but everything is tight.
check your carrier bearing for the driveline, it could be loose and worn out, that will cause vibration and will eventually wearout the U-joints.
I was going to question the U-joints. I replaced the carrier bearing last year so it's pretty fresh. I just finished doing some more searching on here for the same issue and read a couple of posts that the harmonics, when perfectly combined with a certain amount of factors, such as a tire slightly out of round, can cause this to happen. Tires are balanced and in great shape. Wednesday I am going to rotate them and at least see if the bounce is still there and/or seems to be coming from the back since it seems to be more in the front now.
