welding with thermite

I have a spot on the passanger side that has rusted loose (bottom of door to pillar, body only). I don't have a welder or a place to weld it, and I just need a temporary hold. I was thinking about using thermite to hold the pieces together, but I'm concerned that it may melt through the bottom. Anyone have experience in this area? I don't have a soldering option either other than my soldering gun (designed for soldering electrical circuts)

I can provide a picture if needed.

I can't help you with thermite welding, but maybe the following older post regarding gluing will give you another option.

welding with thermite

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Jan-03 AT 11:07 PM (EST)]Why not solder? All that requires is a propane torch, acid flux, and solder. Clean it well before and after soldering, and seal it up with marine bondo. I did a couple of patches on the inner fenders that way as an experiment, and they're still OK after 8 years. (I had a panel flanger, so the patch was basically flush: only needed filler around the seam, not over the whole patch.)

When I was in the Navy we had slabs of thermite to destroy equipment. Put in on top and it would burn all the way thru, pretty impressive.
