I'm hoping someone here can help me out with this problem. I don't know too much about factory disc changers. My friend has a 2005 Explorer Limited and the battery recently was replaced. She tried using a jumper pack to start the truck using the old battery and since then the disc changer is having errors. It is showing that all of the discs are empty when they are all loaded and it is making clicking noises. My thoughts would be to pull out the disc changer and unplug/plug it back in or pull out the fuse and check that. Anyone have this issue?
I don't really have anything helpful other than to say I have the same issue. I have an 02 with a 6 disc changer in the dash, premium sound package I think. It worked until last year and now its a no go. I pulled it from the dash, took it apart and messed around with it moving all the linkages that I could get to by hand plugged it back in the truck and was able to get the CD's removed but it still exhibits problems. The radio portion of the unit regularly shifts balance and fade full left and full rear all by itself, and even changes its own freq's. Did some research and apparently the unit is poorly designed with some heat problems. A guy on ebay offers a "fix" for these problems for around $30 but I haven't pulled the trigger and done it. A new unit is around $700 from Ford if I remember but I have seen them come across ebay for around $250-300. Believing they do have problems has prevented me from sinking the money in for fear of a repeat failure donw the road. I just don't use the CD player anymore and put up with the radio problems. I don't think it could hurt to pull it from the dash and monkey with it a bit, maybe a low pressure shot of air and some manipulation wil get your CD's for you.

Thanks for the info Eric. I don't think it's worth spending that kind of money for one either. Even the Ebay price is a lot of money if it could possibly have the same problem. Maybe she should go with a aftermarket one.
