turn signal question

i have a 79 f-100 that i just bought and it is almost ready for the road, but the only problem left is that the turn signals dont blink, when i go to turn them on (left and right) they just stay solid. when i turn on my haz. lights the same thing happens(all the lights light up but dont blink). does anyone ahve any ideas? i have changed all the bulbs already

check your ground wires by the lights themselves. sounds like there is probably a lot of corrosion on them where they fasten to the pickup

ok ill try that. also someone had told me that it was maybe my blinker relay i believe is what they said

I have the same problem with my 1990 F150. Was the corrosion the problem? Mine will go solid for a week or two, then have a few days where they work again. A few days later, they'll go solid again.

Sounds like the flasher (blinker) is dead. There are 2 flashers under the dash, One is for the turn signals, the other one is for the hazard lights. If the hazard lights work, try swapping the flashers and see if ithe signals work.

If there lighting up outside the truck I would also suspect your flashers are shot.

There is no such thing as a blinker (flasher) relay used on these trucks.

As other have said, the turn signal flasher is defective, time for a new one.

Turn signal flasher: SF224 or SF323.

Turn signal and/or emergency flasher: SFE552B

These are Industry aka autoparts store part numbers.

The emergency flasher can be used in place of the turn signal flasher. Since it has a louder click, it works well for folks who are hard of hearing.
