Mixing paint

Is there a general rule for mixing acrylic enamel, ie 8:1 for hardner 4:1 reducer. Any other tips/ advice for this type of paint? I did choose a non-wet look hardner to keep with the more original type look.

Follow the directions for your particular paint. Each manuf has different ratio's.

What if you buy a different hardner, reducer and paint?

I would not use different hardner and paint. Reducer is not a problem, you just follow what the paint says to use. But you might have a reaction if you use different hardner and paint. Ive seen where the paint doesnt cure properly due to a different brand of hardner. The only way you could get away with this is to use products from the same manuf, but different lines of paint. IE PPG enamel with Omni reducer

Novice 'do it myselfter' used Limco Acrylic Enamel paint on 65 F100 and according to the T sheet it's strongly suggested not mixing brand hardners and reducers; imagine it's what one would expect them to say but with my lack of experience did want any other issues effecting the outcome of the paint job, it can be challenging enough as it is.

I'm not a paint guy but I have a friend that has done it for some 35 years. He said to always follow the manufacturers recommendations for their product. The reasoning is that every manufactutuers mix is a chemical soup of their design. That makes it succeptable to an adverse reaction if you mix a chemical component into it that is not compatable to their recipe. Stay safe and use what the manufacturer recommends!
