c6 problems

c6 problems
im having problems with my 89 f 150. reverse works great, goes right in and grabs, but when i put it into drive 1 0r 2, it doesnt, pretty much at all. if you rev it up good it will grab and be fine for a little bit and drive normal then after a while it will go back to where you have to rev it up again to grab. any ideas? i thought maybe filter and trans fluid. or a rebuild. its an 89 f150 351w with the c6. any help would be great. thanks

not expert but have 3 C6 here
I learn in transmission class.
What color fluid is?
did it feel slipping?
Do you know how to check pressure in that transmission?
If it was me I would have rebuilt but first check basic stuff before rebuilt.

i thought low fluid too, but i checked it and its good. i dont really know too much about auto trans. 1st one i have ever had. it slips then it just grabs and is good. i dont really drive it much either. thought about flushing it but thats a 100 dollars. try some lucas maybe?
