correct the 77 1/2 model year was the last for the FE motor in any vehical really. Ford however stuffed a few in the late 77s to clear inventory on the FE.

I don't know where you're getting your info from, but what you say about FE engines is in-correct.
1968 was the first year the 360 and 390 were offered in F100/350's.
1976 was the last year the 360 and 390 were installed in F100/350's.
1965/67: The only V8 available in F100/350's was the 352 2V.
OK, so this thread comes at a good time as I have a question. Will a 390 fit in a 1977 F-150 2WD with a C-6 originally equipped with a 351M? Are the motor mount brackets to the frame in the same location so the motor mounts on block line-up or do the brackets have to be changed? Is it a drop and go?
That's not what I recall, and the parts catalog doesn't agree with you.
Look up 6038's or 6068's, it sez right there 1973/79 F100/350.
btw: In CA in 1979, you could not get a 460 in anything but an F250/350 because of the emission requirements BS.
I bought a new Lariat Stupor Cab, had to settle for the 400.
Just saw them.
I have a 1978 F-series buying guide from back then, and it sez 460 4V was only available in F150 or heavier except in CA as you previously stated. It also sez you aren't able to get a 300 or 302 in CA in Supercabs, only regular cabs.
I had a factory-installed 460 in a '79 F150 2wd. Didn't make much difference in power from a 400 due to smog requirements.

The reason I wanted a 460 was...the 351M and 400 engines were in-famous for cracking cylinder heads.
Both were gutless smogged up terds and neither one had enough get up and go to pull a sick trollop off a porcelain device!
