New vacuum guage leaking fuel

Hello all. I finally found that my fuel filter vacuum gauge was leaking. I replaced it today, but now it's leaking like a sieve where it threads into the FPR. I feel I've tightened it as far as I should so as not to crack the FPR. Can I use thread tape or should I tighten it more. Thanks

Are you sure it's not been overtightened already? It doesn't take very much for the tapered pipe threads to split the side of the aluminum housing.

I put thread tape on the vacuum gauge, and it significantly reduced the leak. It no longer drips but there is a slight amount of fuel leaking from where gauge theads in. Is it possible that I'm not tightening it enough. Just how much is too much? I finger tightened the gauge + a 3/4 turn with a wrench.

When I replaced mine I hand tightened pretty good then maybe another 1/2 turn with a wrench. I checked .. have about 4 threads (valleys) visible. I did not have to use thread tape and no leaks.

Generally all threaded fittings need sealant to completly seal it. Some threaders get worn and do not make smooth threads. Also the teflon tape has to wrapped the same way you screw it in, if it is installed wrong it will unrap it as you install the fitting. I always make 3 wraps on fittings, especially high pressure ones.

Well, I ran three layers of thread tape and now there is absolutely no leak. I screwed the gauge in hand tight and then gave it 1/4 turn. I thought I may have cracked the FPR at first, but what I thought were hair line cracks are not leaking. Everything is bone dry, so I'll keep my fingers crossed this fixed it. Thanks for your advise.
