Got the new windsor in and started, its idling at 400-500 rpm and if you put it in gear and step on the gas it starts popping through the carb and dies. I disconnected the spout connector and set the timing at 10*. I replaced all the vacuum hoses with new rubber ones. It kinda sounds like a miss, but maybe a vacuum leak I dunno. Any advice?
What year setup is this? And it's a 351w? If it's constantly loping at idle like it does have a miss, there is a chance the builder or someone put a 302 cam in it. They will fit, and all you have to do is change the plug wires around to make them work. The 302 HO cam is the same as a 351w, but a regular 302 cam would be different(as was mentioned before). It may be worth a try to see if it runs worse or clears up.
Geez Dave,
You saved my hide again! I thought maybe my pointer was beat up or wrong one, but I double checked TDC with a pencil and it was right on. I tried moving the wires to 302 firing order thinking it was crazy and absolutly not going to help, when I turned the key it fired right up and ran smooth as silk. Thanks for the help, gonna call my engine builder today and let him have an ear full.
