Howdy Y'all, its been a long time since I posted here, but you guys have always helped.
Does anybody know the torque value for a 1992 Ranger tranny pan?
It started slipping this winter so I checked the fluid, it was so low & brown I decided to change the fluid!
Now that its warmed up a bit around here it sounds like a good project.
If anybody has some good tips or tricks-of-the-trade I would appreciate them also.
Whoops, I guess a few details might help, I dont know if they put different trannys in different models, its a '92 ranger with a 4.0L engine, auto-trans with o/d & limited-slip rear-end.
As always, THANK YOU for your help!!!
Another question?, is Dexron/Mercon the right fluid to put in that tranny?
96-120 inch/lbs torque on the tranny pan fastners.
Mercon-V, XT-5-QM(black bottle) is now the new dual use Motorcraft tranny fluid recipe, for all former origional red bottle Mercon, XT-2-QDX & Mercon-V, XT-5-QMC applications.
So check the rear label on the fluid bottle for whats in it. The new case of dual use Mercon-5, XT-5-QM bottles I got from the local Motorcraft Distributor, were all in black bottles.
Don't mix any of the three different formulations.
Since you are only dropping the pan, you'll not be draining a couple of quarts in the torque converter, and this sounds like a first drain in some time, I'd stick with the Mercon, and not use the Mercon V(which is supposed to be a synthetic fluid)-a lot of your name brands have Mercon, or Dexron III-Mercon..
