I have a 1999 and i noticed the other day that it was leaking coolant when running. it is coming from the water pump as far as i can tell. as soon as i shut the truck off it stops leaking. lost probably half a gallon in a matter of 5 miles around town. I hear is is the seal in the pump that requires the whole pump to be replaced. just wanted some input on if that is true and how i can be sure before i get it replaced.
Thanks
Clean up the area and make sure it is coming from the water pump. If so just replace like Steve said. Do you have the upper radiator hose that goes THROUGH the serpentine belt? If so now is a good time to get the one that goes around. Then you can change the belt without taking the hose off when it needs replacing.
Ya know what?
Do like Jay says and get the hose and a 203* thermostat, and what the heck, since you will have the belt off the pump, go ahead and change it too. Throw the old one in the back for a spare.
Make sure its not that little o-ring in between the flange where the hose attaches and the pump.... thats where mine was leaking last month ! New o-ring and away you go !
Which models have the hose that goes around the serp. belt? Mine goes through and I would like to change it while I'm replacing water pump, but not sure which hose to get.
