4X4 lock-in problem
Posting for a friend.
2000 F250 7.3 PS. When to use the 4x4 drive and couldn't get it to lock-in from inside the cab or at the hub lock outs? the hubs turned to "lock" but no 4x4, What's up?

not to hijack but a friends '01 7.3 did the same thing last night. no matter what position the 4x4 switch was in the light on the dash had both lights lit and only rear passnger wheel spun, the driver rear did spin but not as much as the passenger, i tried neutral park and no avial, next we tried manually locking hubs and still nothing, I have never locked the hubs manually before. is there a proper procedure for doing so? i ended up pulling him out with my '05 6.0 dually

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak to the hubs or the vacuum solonoid is bad.Can you hear the transfer case switch engaging or the vacuum pump running?When you turn your AC does it blow out the defrost?

Theres no proper procedure to lock the wheels in manually. You just turn them to lock on the hubs and engage the tranfer case. If they were turned to lock and you still didnt have 4x4 something is up with your transfer case most likely. I would definitely do what Jay suggested and check all your fuses and use a multimeter to check continuity, not just visually. Make sure you check under the hood as well. Even with the vacuum leak you still should be able to engage the hubs manually. If you want to check for a leak just turn your a/c on hi and see if it ends up going thru the defrost vents...

Try leaving your hubs unlocked. Lock in your t-case. Crawl under and see if your front drive shaft will turn. Watch your axles at the end of the housing to see if they spin with the drive shaft. If it locks then its in your hubs. I have seen them strip out where the manual part is broke with older trucks but not a diesel.
