6.0L turbo spooling problem

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on the forum, but i need advice!

I have had 2 7.3L superduty's in the past and loved both. Now i have a 2005 6.0L that im liking a lot! A problem though... i know lots of guys with these trucks and my turbo spools up much much later than normal.

Let me try to explain to the best i can. Feels like the truck is running all motor until about 3k rpms, then you see the boost gauge creep up a little and at about 3.5k theres this huge bolt of boost (20+lbs). Ive had this problem ever since ive bought it, but cant really figure out what it is.

The truck was completely stock when i bought it. No warranty. No engine mods done yet...

Any ideas?

thanks in advance!

Sounds like an egr related problem. Same thing would happen to me when I had a crack in the up-pipes. If you had an EGT gauge and your EGTs were spiking as you were trying to drive, then I would be more sure of saying this.

With the 6.0L engines there have been a few problems with the turbos also. The turbo is a variable vein turbo so the veins open and close. If the veins are stuck open it will have a hard time spooling. I know of another guy that this has happened too, he took his truck into Ford and demanded a new turbo after explaining the problem. They went ahead and ordered up a turbo and put it on for him ran like a new truck would after. Hoped this helped.

Are you past the 5yr./100,000 mile engine warranty? If not should only cost you 100 bucks. May be able to get it covered under emissions for free!
