Front end expert time...

Last time I was at my fav boneyard, not a single 2wd truck with swaybars - today, 3 of them.

so I scored a perfect set of rear links (at $27 from rock auto each, this was a steal)

I need new front springs.

On the early 80-83ish trucks the radius arm had a notch in it to locate the sway bar ends and the big bolt goes up thru the middle

my 81 and another 81 I saw and an 82 have these cup shaped spacers about 1.25" thick on top of the axle beams. all other 2wd trucks, including an 82, had what appeared to be longer springs (installed) without the cups, everything else the same. I even found examples of the notch in the radius arm on 'cupless' spring installations.

so, you know me, if I can bolt it on, it fits....but given that LMC, rock auto advance etc is not differentiating in springs (everyone claims 16"ish free, 12.75-13" ish installed height, it seems that shorter springs with cups were a one off? Im considering ditching the cups and just ripping the springs/bolts etc out of the pick of the litter of the 82-86 trucks I saw

opinions? experiences?
