i have a rebuilt genny for a 226, and i need one for a 215. anyone know if i can just have the pully swapped and replace the mounting bracket? the unit itself looks a little different to me.
thanks
According to the Chassis Part Catalogue, the generators were the same 35 amp generators for both 51 and 52 6 cylinder engines (225 and 215 resp).
If they are both supposed to be 6 volt, and you can make it fit mechanically then it will work. You can swap out the pullys if you want, but if the 226 pulley will fit the 215 belt (the V) and the 226 pulley is smaller than the 215 pulley, and not over 1/4 inch smaller, you can use it as is. The smaller pulley will cause it to turn faster and generate more amps (which can be a good thing, with in reason, at lower rpms). If the pulley is larger on the one you have as opposed to the regular one, you should swap them or you will discharge at low rpms with a draw.
There were three ratings in generators...35 amp; 40 amp heavy duty; and 60 amp.
The main difference between the 35 amp and 60 amp generators was the pulley size. The three generators did use different regulators though.
