Engine Oil?

What are some thoughts about using a Motorcraft oil filter and Quaker State 5W20 engine oil in a 2005, 5.4 L.

Thanks

Why not use the Motorcraft 5w20? That's what Ford specs.. And it's costs less than Q-State...

I use only Motorcraft oil in my Fords... Just retired (traded-in) a 2001 Focus with 362,718 miles...

OEM oil and filter... You can't go wrong..

Try doing a search on oil in the forum. Oil has been dicussed many many times...

Nothing wrong with either. Could you do better? Sure. What are you looking to know? What is the BEST oil and filter, price no object? Best value? Lots of opinion on all that. Truth is, you can get good service from all the name brand oils and filters. What you get for the money spent varies. The aftermarket Motorcraft filters are a particularly good value, though the current factory fit MC suck (made in China). Motorcraft oil is also a good value. I don't think QS is any better, but certainly not worse. The current best value in the more expensive, off-the-shelf oils may well be Pennzoil Platinum. AC Delco filters are particularly efficient filters too inthe realm of off-the-shelf, medium cost. Probably the best filter you can buy is the Amsoil EaO. Best oil in the expensive realm? Not sure I have a strong opinion there. Amsoil and Redline would be on the list as well as well as Lubrication Engineers, Schaeffers, Royal Purple... all outta my price range. My favorite oil is Shell Rotella-T, a diesel rated oil. Very robust, not costly and ideal for some gassers, but not suited to a 5.4L. Might be able to get by with the 10W30 version, but....,???

The dreaded oil thread, famous in every vehicle forum! And the answer is always people's opinion.

I use Amsoil in all of my vehicles. I'm a big believer of sythentic oils. I also use Amsoil's Ea oil filters as well. K&N and Wix are great filters too. Framm is a paper filter.

Do your homework and decide for yourself.

definatly sticking to the specd oil and filter until the warrt is up also.....after that, ill switch to fram filters, have always used and loved them...and end up sticking with the motorcraft syn oil only for the sake of not wanting to have any seal/rings or any other 'ford' issues....For the diesels in the trucks at work we stick with rotella 15 40 heavy service....stuff is great.

The Motorcraft oil and filter are the best value if you change every 3000. As for an AC oil filter you need to look at the material they use on the insde. The last one I looked at was mostly plastic holding the filter material. Looks like very cheap quality.
