I got an 06 250 SD 2x4 and the 3v triton. IT has both the 7 pin round and 4 flat for trailer hook ups factory installed. On the seven pin how many of the pins are wired from the factory? like i use it for a small trailer so I know the turns, ground, brakelights, and parking lights work but the other clips are for a 12v source, backup/aux, and electric brakes. I do not hve the built in trailer brakes ford offered but is it still wired incase I do some day? also it would be great is the 12v source worked and the backup. Make night work so much better and ill toss more lights on the trailer.
So are the pins all wired from the actory for use?
does any one know if its wired where the active brake controll wire would lead to the cab? like where can i acces the other end if i want to put a controller in? or do i need to run my own.
i found alot of time ford has the wires there just not the hardware
In the cab, under the removable panel below the steering wheel, on the right side attached to a frame member, is a plug for a trailer brake controller. It has a wire for power, ground, brake signal, illumination and the wire going back to the 7 pin for the brake signal. You can buy a pre-wired harness for the Tekonsha brake controllers, or a pigtail to wire in other brake controllers.
The pins in the 7-way are pre-wired for 12v and backup as well as the lights. However I believe some trucks were shipped without the proper relays installed to activate them. You can test them with a test light to know and get the proper relays from Ford if necessary.
