I've read a good bit on hear about the air bag alarm codes; however, I can't seem to find a good concrete answer about the code 34.
I know it is "Driver Air Bag Circuit Resistance Low"
I've read that this connection could be in the steering wheel near the clockspring.
I've also read that this code could be for the pretensioner on the seat belt.
I should add that my ABS light comes on intermittently and the cruise control usually does not work. Do you think this could all be due to a faulty clockspring?
So, I'm just not too clear about what the issue exactly is or how to go about fixing this.
I have a 03 Ford Explorer. Thanks in advance for any help you may offer in helping me understand this problem!!
Thank you for the info. Perhaps that is why I have seen different causes for the 34 code. If I am hearing you correctly, 34 might mean "Driver Air Bag Circuit Resistance Low" for some models , but on my 03 explorer it is indicating the passenger side belt pre-tensioner. I'll look at the yellow plug under my passenger seat and see if that fixes it. Regarding the RCM, where is it on my car? Steering column?
It sounds like a need a new clock spring regardless of the air bag issue because my cruise doesn't work 99% of the time. Agree?
My '94 F-150 had a code of 34 and it turned out to be the clockspring. It's so noted that your particular code is for the pre-tensioner, but you also mentioned that your cruise-control was not working also. After researching my truck code it was widely noted that the clockspring is mainly responsible for c-c failure. My particular truck did not have c-c, but by replacing the clockspring it solved my code problem. Replacement was quite easy. I believe that I found step by step instructions on the Motorcraft tech website (it costs 10.95 for a 72 hour subscription to the workshop manual) & it gives you instructions that are easy to follow with illustrations.
Good Luck!
I have a 2005 sportrac and the airbag idicator comes on.
I got code 34 initially but then disconnected and re-connected the wire harness under the driver seat. Now it flashes code 42.
what does this mean? what can I do to save myself $400 as quoted by my friendly neighbourhood ford dealer.

just a report back to all on my issue...I took my truck to a local garage rather than the crooks at the ford dealership.
Turned out to be the front-middle sensor behind the grill/bumper was causing a faulty reading due to corrosion/dirt/rust on the connector.
the garage replaced the sensor and cleaned all connector contacts which seems to have fixed the problem. no more idiot light staying on!
