Need help

I have a 87 fuel injected 300, the truck has set for about 5 years. I drained the gas, replaced the high presssure pump, plugs, engine module, fuel pump relay and removed both of the cats and the muffler. The truck starts fine , but will only fun for about 5 minutes, then it will die. If you let is cool off for a little bit then it will start right up. I have replaced about everything i know to replace, but the computer, some one told me that it could be the propblem but i was trying to get some more thoughts on the subject before i go and buy anymore usless parts. Thanks for the help.

Pull the codes. Why did you remove the cats and the muffler? That is going to sound awful.

I can't pull the codes, I don't have an obd 1 code reader. I cut all the exhaust off because someone told me that the cats may be getting hot and closing up. The check engine light comes on and just kinda flashes every now and then.

take the truck to a mechanic and have them diagnose it for you.

tell everyone that someone on fte told you to do that.

it will be more productive then cutting out the cats and muffler was.

"If you let is cool off for a little bit then it will start right up."

Heat issue? Fuel vapor lock? Hose issue? Fuel lines near exhaust...It is difficult when you're/we're not under the hood. Throw more info here and we'll try some more. (Does it stall out when you put it in gear/drive/reverse?) Etc.....

A bad coil will give u those symptoms. Usually after around 20 min in my experence. U should pull the coil wire when it dies and see if u have spark.

When it dies and won't restart, check to see if you are getting spark through the spark plug wires. If no spark, I would try replacing the coil first, if that don't fix it it's probably the PIP in the distributor. If you still have spark after it dies and won't restart right away, I see no mention of replacing the fuel filter. I have seen a plugged fuel filter act that way.

Sorry for the lack of info. I have replaced the coil, and the ignition module on the distributor, and the fuel filter. I don't think it can be vapor lock cause its fuel injected. There is not any fuel lines near the exhaust. What is the pip in the distributor is this the same as the ignition module. It starts and runs fine for about 5 minutes or a couple of miles then is like some one reached over and turned the key off it just dies, no sputtering. I put a fuel pressure gauge on it, when it dies the pressure dropts to zero. I think its getting spark, even after it dies. I replaced the high pressure pump but i haven't replaced the one in the tank, but i did a visual inspection and looked ok, but i know it doesent mean anything.

as i suggested in an earlier post, take it and have the codes read.

have a mechanic diagnose the problem instead of just replacing stuff.

how do you visually inspect the in tank pump?
