00' Excursion Lock Actuator Repairs, ETC !

Hey all,,found another 00' Excursion V-10, Limited, Toreado Red/Tan, 140k miles, C3 axle (4:30 LS) runs good, drives nice, shifts good, Heated seats, there asking $7,500,,doors closed nice,, lights all work, had the DVD screen,(Audio-Vox, not sure if it worked), 6-CD in the dash,,nice sound, heat worked good, had decent Bridgestone Dueller AT tires, backup sensor that worked, driving it clicked into 4x4,,felt the truck Bump or kick-in, back into 2wd,,then back to 4x4, did the same, like 4x4 is working, TT power mirrors work well, scratch on drivers door,,not really any dents.

Now the bad,,,1 hub is seized, 4 lock actuators dont work,,trans shifter is a bit loose, tape around shift ***/OD button, interior lights stayed on when we left,,only driver door lock operate's when pushing the buttons,, drivers door is missing the lower inside door pocket,,,over-head console is loose,,pulling away from roof(just a bit), the rear barn door interior panels seem to be loose, the windshield is cracked but they said it would be changed before purchase!

I recall seeing a post in FTE about someone that had a fix for the lock actuators,,what kind of a job is it to remove and fix them?

What kind of $$ should I offer on this Excursion,,been looking for one with 4:30 LS. I think they will come down a bit,!,,,,,Mark

A 2000 V10 LTD with 140K and all that you list is wrong and eve though all seem relative minor, man that's a good question. First I will say $7500 sounds high. I would be in the 4k to 5K range and that depends how bad you want it. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

BTW is this at a dealer or private sale.

I am pretty sure you can not fix the lock actuators, must replace them. The price range for them are between $35 and $55, depends where you buy them, ebay or the "stealership". They are not that hard to replace, I have change them in both my S/D and Excursion. Really can not explain the proper way of doing it but I had a mechanic at Ford tell me some of the tricks of the trade to get the old one out and slide the new ones in. I think it took me about 2 hours to replace the 4 in the EX. I guess if you add up the price of the actuators and labor that is at least $400 to $500. Then if you start adding up all the little B.S. you will be looking at least another $2000 to $4000. I hope I am not scaring you but I went throught this when I bought EX three years ago. My wife calls it the money pit! But I love the truck and I am glad that I have her.
Good Luck!

Yep, you can repair them. And very cheaply/easily too. Here is a better link to the step by step actuator repair: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...cks-fixed.html

The price needs to come down. Has it had ball joints done? How is the trans? No repaired spark plug holes?

I paid almost $1500 less than that for my '00 Limited that needed NO repairs and had 105,000 miles on it. This was last June.

The Ex is at a small time dealer,,they r selling it for a buddy of there's,,,I just rememered it also needs a Headlight switch,,,they have a screw holding the **** on ,,,I did not get the ID#,,or I would run an Oasis. Not sure on the ball joints,,It did drive nice,,straight no wandering or pulling.

Dont think they would go $5,500 though,,,,maybe.

If you look in the Excursion Tech. Folder I think you will find what your looking for as far as the actuators rebuild.

Noob question, what's the advantages with the 4:30 LS? I assume that means gear ratio and limited slip. I think my '02 is a 3.73.

Yes 4:30 is the axle ratio and LS is Limited Slip and the advantage of the lower axle is more mechanical advantage for torque and Limited Slip you have power to both rear wheels not just one with and open diff.

from what i have read and learned from FTE most EX's have common problems .... the door locks, spark plugs, 4X4 hubs gone bad, warped brake rotors, broken manifold bolts and a some other stuff. my '01 v10 has / had about all of the common stuff. i have slowly been taking care of the problems. the door locks run about $100.00 per door for the shop to fix, brakes and rotors ran me about $400.00 for front rotors and 4 sets of pads, my a/c had a leak and that was about $200.00. rear window lift struts were bad $50.00. BUT ( now here's the but) when i tow my camper ( 30' fleetwood prowler lynx... about 7500lbs) i can pull away from my inlaws C class 460 motorhome.... now that grin on my face is $ priceless.
