kick down linkage
yes, ford used a hard rod from the carb to the tranny.. course it only fits ONE space setting..
Lokar (and others) now make a cable that does the same thing, and is usable in lots of different situations.. I'm using one on my 460/C6 setup.
stomp on the gas. the cable pulls the carb throttle back(rotating clockwise), pulling the kickdown (cable/rod connected to bottom of carb throttle) which pulls on the arm at the tranny.

It's up to you of course and how much money you want to spend, but you don't need one. I have a 390 with a C6. I have no mechanical kickdown linkage and it downshifts fine.
Trust me, if you floor your gas pedal, that C4 is going to sense the vacuum drop off and downshift all by itself. But be careful, by the time you can get your foot off the gas pedal, you will probably be sitting back in the bed somewhere.
As for not needing it....I guess I'm going to have it. I ordered it last night when I got home from class. Sitting in the bed won't be a bad thing!!!
Look at the bright site, and we can keep this our little secret. Even if you put it in and don't do it right, the transmission will still kick down because of the vacuum drop off. So, based on satisfactory results, you will probably look pretty sharp to "The Dad."
Ssshhhhhhh!
Actually this isn't so much an F1/F-100 issue as much as a 302/C4 issue so you might want to post your question on one of the later model truck or engine forums as well.
As for it being another forum's issue, I prefer hearing from you guys. If you guys don't know then answer (or if I need something really technical) then I'll go to another one and look. But as for now, you guys have got the job done!!! And I appreciate everyone's help.
